Description

Baker SterilGARD e3 SG604 Biosafety Cabinet

The Baker SterilGARD e3 SG604 is the most energy efficient biosafety cabinet available today. The newly redesigned airflow management system saves energy and improves both user comfort and safety.

This model includes a push-button adjustable hydraulic stand.

The Baker SG604 achieves maximum user protection through six technologies working in concert. Momentum air curtain, high-velocity return air slots, aerodynamically designed airfoil, optimized downflow, and unique air bypass armrest.

The energy saving features provide up to 60% increased energy efficiency when compared to similar biosafety cabinets and extend HEPA filter lifespan by up to 30%.

Baker SterilGARD e3 SG604 Features

The Baker SterilGARD e3 SG604 features the new trademarked ReadySAFE mode. A unique padded armrest allows the cabinet to maintain A2 conditions with the viewscreen in the close position. When the sash is lifted, the cabinet is instantly safe upon resuming standard operation.

The versatile ReadySAFE mode is designed to be used during breaks (even extended breaks such as overnight) to maintain safe conditions and save energy.

The audible and visual alarms alert the operator of some unsafe conditions including power/processor fault alarm, viewscreen alarm, and double viewscreen position sensor fault alarm.

Each Baker SterilGARD e3 SG604cabinet has one cable port located in the right sidewall. This provides a safe means of introducing power cables, tubing or other similar items into the work area. It is designed with flexible neoprene seals allowing multiple cables and/or tubing totaling up to 1 inch in diameter.

The operator controls and indicators are arranged in a single, easily cleaned membrane switch assembly on the front of the cabinet. There are pushbuttons for blower, fluorescent light, outlets, optional ultraviolet light and alarm mute.

The motor and blower in the Baker SterilGARD e3 SG604 are built as a single assembly and balanced to minimize vibration. The motor control automatically compensates for increased pressure drop across the filters without significantly reducing the total air flow rate. The air flow capacity of the cabinet is measured by the ability to provide a nearly constant volume of air as the filter resistance to airflow increases.

Baker SterilGARD e3 SG604 Testing

Our technicians test each biosafety cabinet and clean bench to ensure that the controls and blower motor work properly, as well as ensuring that the HEPA filter is suitable for use in lab conditions. Our testing procedure includes all the elements of certification in order to ensure that the unit will pass certification once it is at your site.

If you’re in the Greater Boston or New England area, contact our sister company, AIE Lab Services, to schedule your certification. In many cases, we complete certification on the day of or following delivery. Their services include testing, certification, repair, replacement, decontamination, and removal of biosafety cabinets and clean benches. You can reach them at 978-521-2221 or by email at [email protected].

Baker SG604 biosafety cabinet frequently asked questions

Q: Is the hydraulic stand available for sale separately?

A: No, we have this stand paired this particular Baker SG604. If you would like to purchase a stand separately you should contact Baker directly for pricing and availability.

Q: What are some of the features that make the Baker SterilGard SG404 a good investment?

A: Because of the improvements in efficiency annual operating costs for the SG404 can be up to 70% lower than compared to the Baker SG403 models. A lot of this reduction can be attributed to the new StediFLOW variable frequency drive motor, which can accommodate increases in pressure drops of up to 300% across the filter with almost no reduction in total air delivery.  One of our favorite features is the fold up front panel that allows for frontloading filters. For most biosafety cabinets, including older Baker units, removing the front panel is a time and labor-intensive activity. With the SG404, however, the front panel is hinged and swings up, similar to the hood of a car, allowing for quicker and easier HEPA filter replacement. This sounds like a small improvement, but if you work with biosafety cabinets as frequently as we do you will quickly begin to appreciate how great this design is.

Q: Are the Baker Sterilgard SG404 units as durable as the older SG400 models?

A: Time will tell, although all indications are that these units will have some serious longevity. As of this writing we still see some Baker SG400 models in the field – every now and then our certifiers will come across a unit that is older than they are. Will the Sterilgard 604s last this long? They are certainly quality built, as are all Baker products, with quality materials and a good design. We’re looking forward to working with these units for many years to come.

Q: Why do you install new HEPA filters in the Baker SG404 before shipping to customers?

A: New filters for a Baker SterilGard SG404, plus the cost of installation, can total anywhere from $2,000 to $3,500 or more, depending on your location and what your certifier charges for installation. We install new HEPA filters in every biosafety cabinet and clean bench prior to shipment. If you’re purchasing a used biosafety cabinet without filters, there’s no way to know for sure that it works properly. If you’re buying a used biosafety cabinet with old filters, you may not be able to determine the age of the filters or safe operating time remaining, plus there are concerns of contamination. Installing new filters is the best way for us to guarantee that each biosafety cabinet works to specification and is fully decontaminated.
