Thermo Sorvall LYNX 6000 Features

The Centri-Touch touchscreen interface has a bright, highly visible, and durable display that simplifies setup. The Lynx 6000 allows program storage of up to 120 user-inputted programs. The drive system features a high torque brushless motor for years of virtually maintenance free use and quiet operation at less than 59dBA.

This Lynx 6000 comes with the Fiberlite F9-6-1000 LEX fixed angle rotor, which is designed for bioprocessing (up to 6L per run) and offers the flexibility of adapters for labware from 1.5 to 500mL (purchased directly from Thermo Scientific).

Thermo Fiberlite Rotors

Thermo Scientific Fiberlite rotors maximize centrifuge performance with versatility, speed, and a robust, corrosion-free design. Large metal centrifuge rotors often present a unique lifting hazard in the laboratory due to their weight and awkward shape.

Lightweight Fiberlite rotors, up to 60% lighter than metallic rotors, help create a safer work environment and minimize damage to centrifugation equipment. Additionally, these lightweight properties result in faster acceleration/deceleration rates for shorter run times.

Traditionally, the primary cause of rotor failure is damage to metal surfaces due to moisture, chemicals, or alkaline solutions that weaken the metal rotor’s structural integrity. Carbon fiber composite rotors are corrosion-resistant, eliminating this ever-present hazard, and are safe to use with most mild laboratory detergents and solutions, providing easy rotor care and maintenance.

Substantial load or stress, as a result of high rotational speeds and repeat cycles, can also threaten the metal rotor structure by causing it to stretch and change in size, limiting rotor life or leading to failure. Thermo Scientific Fiberlite rotors are fatigue-resistant, mitigating this threat.

The next generation of high capacity Fiberlite rotors, the Fiberlite LEX rotor series, further advances the current carbon fiber design, combining even lower mass with low kinetic energy to deliver superior ergonomics with outstanding performance and safety.

Fiberlite LEX rotors take the lightweight design of carbon fiber to a whole new level; these rotors are the lightest of their kind, further improving ergonomics and ease of handling.

Thermo Lynx 6000 Auto-Lock rotor exchange

Secure, push-button rotor exchange in as little as 3 seconds, and allows for: Improved safety and confidence that the rotor is automatically and securely locked and will not loosen during a run; flexibility to quickly change rotors and applications, matching the needs of your laboratory.

Auto-ID instant rotor identification

Immediate identification of a rotor when secured in the centrifuge chamber, with rotor specifications automatically loaded into the centrifuge parameters. Shortens run set-up time by eliminating the need to find and set rotor codes. Eliminates over-speed risk, reduces error messages, and improves centrifuge, sample and operator safety.

Speed handle on rotor lids

Accelerates and simplifies rotor lid tightening, ensuring lid is properly attached and is easier and safer for lifting and carrying rotors, further enhanced with the lightweight design.

Thermo Sorvall Lynx 6000 centrifuge Testing

Most of our equipment is used and reconditioned. Our technicians test the performance of all centrifuges and make sure the rotating assembly is properly balanced; the bearings, seals and gaskets on the spindle assembly are in good shape; and the controls work properly.

If the centrifuge is refrigerated, we also test to ensure the machine reaches and maintains the proper temperature. All tolerances are measured and the exterior and interior of all units are fully cleaned. If the unit is being purchased with a rotor, we test the rotor/centrifuge combination together.

Thermo Sorvall Lynx 6000 Centrifuge – Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Thermo Sorvall Lynx 6000 centrifuge used for?

The Thermo Scientific Sorvall Lynx 6000 is a superspeed, floor-standing centrifuge designed for high-throughput laboratories. It is commonly used for cell harvesting, protein purification, DNA/RNA isolation, and clinical sample processing, generating high relative centrifugal force (RCF) to efficiently separate biological and chemical samples.

What makes the Sorvall Lynx 6000 a “superspeed” centrifuge?

This model reaches speeds up to 29,000 rpm and forces exceeding 100,000 × g, placing it firmly in the superspeed category. This enables faster separations and improved workflow efficiency compared to standard high-speed centrifuges.

What types of rotors and sample volumes are supported?

The Lynx 6000 offers exceptional flexibility, supporting:

  • Fixed-angle and swinging-bucket rotors
  • Microtubes, microplates, conical tubes, and bottles up to 1 liter
  • Total capacity up to 6 liters

It is compatible with a wide range of rotors (including Fiberlite carbon fiber rotors) and adapters, making it suitable for both small-scale and large-batch applications. If you would like to purchase a Lynx 6000 with rotors, please contact our sales team for pricing and availability.

Is the Lynx 6000 suitable for GMP or regulated environments?

Yes. The centrifuge supports GMP/GLP workflows and can integrate with data management systems (e.g., audit trails and user authentication), helping labs meet regulatory requirements.

What maintenance is required for optimal performance?

Routine maintenance includes:

  • Regular cleaning and decontamination
  • Inspecting rotors for corrosion, scratches, or wear
  • Cleaning condenser filters and touchscreen surfaces
  • Following scheduled service intervals

Operator manuals stress that rotor care is critical, as even minor defects can lead to failure under high centrifugal force. For customers in Greater Boston and New England, our technicians may be able to provide annual preventative maintenance services along with equipment repairs.

Why should I buy a refurbished Sorvall Lynx 6000?

Purchasing a refurbished unit offers several advantages:

  • Up to 50% cost savings compared to new equipment
  • Fully tested and calibrated to manufacturer specifications
  • Faster availability with shorter lead times
  • Environmentally sustainable alternative

This makes it an ideal choice for labs seeking high-end performance without exceeding budget constraints.

Is the Thermo Sorvall Lynx 6000 a good investment for growing labs?

Absolutely. Its scalability, rotor versatility, and high throughput make it ideal for:

  • Biopharma and biotech labs
  • Academic research facilities
  • Clinical and diagnostic labs

When purchased refurbished, it delivers premium performance at a significantly lower cost, making it a smart long-term investment.

Do you have rotors in stock for the Thermo Lynx 6000 centrifuge?

Yes, we frequently have rotors in stock and available to pair with Thermo Lynx centrifuges. Some of these rotors are only available for sale as part of package purchases with the Lynx 6000 centrifuges, such as the F9-6-1000 LEX, while some other models may be available for purchase separately.

You can use the search feature on our website to find specific rotors, or contact our sales staff for pricing and availability information.

How do you test the Thermo Lynx 6000 centrifuge?

Using multiple rotors, we program different parameters into each Lynx 6000 and run the unit as it would be used in a lab. The UI on the Lynx 6000 allows us to determine the successful execution of each programmed run.

Our technicians also check the electronics, the refrigeration system, the integrity of the spindle and bowl, and other factors to ensure that the centrifuge is in good working order and will run to spec in your lab.

How do you ship the Lynx 6000? Can you bring it into my lab?

For customers in Greater Boston and New England, our movers can provide inside delivery. Our field service technicians are also available to provide setup and installation if needed, though in most cases an experienced lab manager can set up the machine. Please call or email us for details.

For customers outside of our local delivery area, the Lynx 6000 Centrifuge will ship on a pallet, partially crated. We can arrange for dock-to-dock shipment. If white-glove delivery is needed, we can work with local carriers for final-mile delivery.
